<![CDATA[Treviso, the Heart of the Veneto]]>http://hoteltoledojesolo.com/information/treviso-the-heart-of-the-veneto.html

Treviso dominates the Veneto plain and has a range of water courses that render the city enchanting and unique. The city is crossed by the Sile, the Botteniga, which receives water from the Limbraga and the Piavesella and splits into the large Cagnan, medium Cagnan or Buranelli, into the Roggia or Siletto and the Canale delle Convertite, and by the Storga.

Natural beauty is not the city’s only attraction. There is also the noteworthy Church of Saint Frances, the Loggia dei Cavalieri, Piazza dei Signori, dominated by the Palazzo dei Trecento, the Church of San Nicolò, the Cathedral, Piazza Rinaldi, the Ponte di Pria (Ponte di Pietra, or Stone Bridge), the Buranelli, an ancient navigable canal, the Monte di Pietà and the Cappella dei Rettori. Some of the most important museums include the Casa da Noal, the Museo della Casa Trevigiana, the L. Bailo Civic Museum, the Museo di Santa Caterina and the Casa dei Carraresi.

Amongst the initiatives and events that take place every year in Treviso, one that is definitely not to be missed is the Ombralonga. This takes place every third Sunday in October and involves stands where you can taste the delights of characteristic wines from the Marca Trevigiana area, together with typical local dishes. The event harks back to the old town tradition called ndar pas osterie, going round the taverns.

The 27th April is the turn of the patron saint of the city, San Liberale. A great deal of attention is focussed on ancient music for organ, to which one of the leading national festivals is dedicated, and to the theatre, with packed theatrical seasons. The city also has numerous polyphonic and popular choirs, amongst which is the Stella Alpina Chorus.

In terms of food and wine, Treviso is internationally known for its famous red chicory and for its wide range of wines, including Prosecco and Cabernet. According to tradition, Tiramisù, a dessert known worldwide, was prepared for the first time in a restaurant in Treviso, while other typical sweets worth a mention include Fregolotta, a tart made with butter, salt and sugar and frittole, typical sweets at Carnival time.

<![CDATA[Burano and Murano, the pearls of the lagoon]]>http://hoteltoledojesolo.com/information/burano-and-murano-the-pearls-of-the-lagoon.html

If you’re spending your holiday in Venice, don’t miss the islands of Murano and Burano.

Murano

This little island on the Venice Lagoon has guarded the secret of blown glass for centuries. Today it is still possible to see the great master glassmakers at work in their workshops, creating the works of art that are admired the world over.
When you visit the island, just a short distance from Jesolo, don’t miss the Basilica of Saints Mary and Donato. On the island you can still see the villas and gardens that were used by the Venetian nobility during Summer in the Sixteenth century.

Burano

Burano, on the other hand, offers a completely different image. This little island of fishermen, just a short distance from Murano, features brightly-coloured little houses that create a rainbow of colours along the narrow streets.

No less important is the production of lace, to which the island has dedicated a museum. This centuries-old art still sees the women of the island busy as they were a century ago, weaving these beautiful textiles.
